COURTYARD HOUSE OF SEPERATION

Courtyard house of separation

For the design strategy of my house, I combined Eisenman’s House 6 with Courtyard house by MOS. Both had different design strategies. Eisenman used deconstructivism to force the residents to live according to the design rather than the other way around like other typical houses. MOS used subtraction to form a central courtyard which acted as a connector between different programs as well as separating them from one another. MOS also used finger/ branches like structures to force a particular directional view to the residents and at the same time created a flow of almost uninterrupted circulation in the house.

So, I combined both their strategies to create a house for a couple. My house used deconstructed cuboid which made it into two floors. The central courtyard in MOS’s design was deconstructed into many smaller courtyards and scattered in the house to separate couples as well as the programs. The small glimpse windows was used to filter reasonable light in some areas of the building. I also used MOS’s branch like structures to force a particular direction at a random tree, to annoy my client like Peter Eisenman.
